“The Looking Glass Wars” by Frank Beddor twists the tail of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” into an epic tale of death and war, adventure and romance. Alyss, heir to the throne of Wonderland, must flee her nation as a child when her murderous Aunt Redd kills both of her parents, and takes control of Wonderland. Alyss falls into the Pool of Tears and is transported to Earth. There, she is adopted, and becomes the beloved of a PRINCE! Dodge, her childhood love, comes and takes her back to Wonderland. When she returns, she fights an epic battle against Redd. Who will be the victor? Can Alyss ensure her people’s safety? You’ll have to read this book to find out!!!

I liked this book a lot. “The Looking Glass Wars” offers a balance of romance and adventure, death and war, with wonderful detail and precision, but it turns the sweet little tale of Alice in Wonderland into a tragedy. What do you think of it???

Haven’t read the book, but want to congratulate Ellie on her “Honorable Mention” in the citywide competition held recently in the Norfolk schools. Evidently she dashed off an essay in record time, and even with such a quick effort got an honorable mention. I can only imagine what she would have gotten if she’d put time into it. But sometimes, inspiration comes on the spur of the moment, and I’ve scored many a good grade on a last minute effort as well. Good job, Ellie. I’m always so proud of you. Love, Nonnie

ElGrace, Saw your face staring out at me this morning from the Sunday paper and it was nice to see it ’cause I missed it last night at your house. Your book sounds interesting. I’m starting “Atonement”, the one that’s out in thearters now and is supposed to be so good. The little ones and I had fun playing hide-and-seek and reading., etc. Hope you had fun where you were, too. love, Nonnie
