Bye Bye, Seven Seconds March 16, 2008

I took seven seconds off my best 100-meter IM (individual medley) on Saturday. I didn’t want to do it, but my parents made me. I thank them for that. I didn’t want to do it because I had a soccer game in less than an hour and by the time we got out to my game we’d be late. My time went from 1:49 to 1:42. That is a lot! Check out the video above to see my IM. By the way an IM is butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle in that order. I don’t know what place I got because I had to leave.

I had fun at my soccer game too. We won 3-2. I had an assist and kicked a ball into the goal though it was already on the line, which is in.

“The Looking Glass Wars” by Frank Beddor twists the tail of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” into an epic tale of death and war, adventure and romance. Alyss, heir to the throne of Wonderland, must flee her nation as a child when her murderous Aunt Redd kills both of her parents, and takes control of Wonderland. Alyss falls into the Pool of Tears and is transported to Earth. There, she is adopted, and becomes the beloved of a PRINCE! Dodge, her childhood love, comes and takes her back to Wonderland. When she returns, she fights an epic battle against Redd. Who will be the victor? Can Alyss ensure her people’s safety? You’ll have to read this book to find out!!!

I liked this book a lot. “The Looking Glass Wars” offers a balance of romance and adventure, death and war, with wonderful detail and precision, but it turns the sweet little tale of Alice in Wonderland into a tragedy. What do you think of it???
