Emily Windsnap has a secret. She’s a girl living a normal life on a boat. But she can swim like a fish, breath underwater and her legs turn into a fish tail. What is she? A mermaid. Her mom and classmates don’t know, and she’s never seen her father. When she meets another mermaid, she goes off on little adventures. When she finds out her father is in trouble with law, she goes off to save him and gets in big trouble. What will she do? Will she ever rescue her father?

You’ll have to read “The Tail of Emily Windsnap” by Liz Kessler to find out.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian February 9, 2008

Sherman Alexie wrote a great new book for pre-teens. Just to warn parents: It has some cussing in it. This book is about an Indian boy who deserts his tribe and goes to a white school far away from their reservation. Even his best friend turns his back on the boy named Arnold Spirit. Will he find friends at his new school? Will he discover a part of him he’s never known? Will he meet a girl? This book has lots of adventure and comedy plus little cartoons throughout the book. I’d recommend this book to kids nine and up.
