Today, I was in my very first race!!! There was one problem. It was raining cats and dogs. Pouring. Pattering. Spitting. Whatever you call it! Oh yeah, there was another problem in my 10-14 race, I was racing against a 14-year-old boy. They combined my race with another, which added a 15-year-old boy to the mix. The boys took off as soon as it started. I knew I was done for. On the false flat up to the finish it felt like hail was hitting my face. The corners were literally acute angles. The 15-year-old boy didn’t count for the 10-14 race, so I finished second after a long hard race. Turned out the rain stopped after my race. My Dad was right, I did get a soaking. I really liked with the wind at my back. I could go really fast. And it was fun watching Daddy race. I got the ring the bell for his last lap. He got 3rd.
For my second place prize, I got a $30 gift certificate to a bike shop and a cool medal. Daddy got a trophy.
I REALLY hope I race again, but not in the rain.

So did you enjoy biking in the rain? I remember it being fun (until I started biking to work in the rain but that’s something else). Like I said elsewhere, I’m sure if it hadn’t been raining you’d have done better – maybe even whupped those boys! Keep up the good work and don’t let anyone think you can’t do better. By the way, next time you win something, kiddo, send the cash my direction, okay? You can keep the medal.
